A STAY AT THE FEATHERS

By Hayley of Southwood Living

We moved to South Norfolk about 8 months ago and made a promise to ourselves that we would explore this glorious county and really experience where we are living rather than just existing!

Sunday we took our defender, lovingly called Nelson, of course!! And headed up to the North coast. The sun was shining as we drove through gorgeous Norfolk countryside, dotted with flint stone buildings and cottages. There is always so much going on in Norfolk, this has been a bit of a surprise if I am honest. Norfolk is full of inspiring small creative independent businesses and I am in my element.

As we approached Holt, we saw signs for two vintage/market events that were happening. One of them was right in the centre of Holt, which is the cutest little town full to the brim with shops and eateries. It is a beautiful Georgian town and the flint stone buildings that dot the streets of Holt are absolutely stunning.

If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I am obsessed with interiors and this little town has lots of gorgeous little shops to wander round, I could easily get lost for a couple of hours. Paul, my lovely husband not quite as excited by shops as me, headed up the The Feathers for a pint. He said he was really pleased with the selection of beers and ales on offer.

We had arranged to meet our friends for the ‘Host Your Roast’ Sunday lunch experience. As I walked into The Feathers to meet everyone, the first thing I noticed of course was the décor. I loved the way it felt luxurious, but so welcoming. It really felt well thought out, as a newly refurbished inn I could feel there had been a huge nod to the history of the building.

Beautiful rich colours, sumptuous velvets, scallop lampshades, all super pleasing to my interior obsessed beady eyes. The interiors felt very well thought out!

The ‘Host Your Roast’ Sunday lunch experience was a family style sharing roast. We had the joint of pork which was carved at our table and served with all the trimmings. The vegetables were plentiful and the carrots were absolutely delicious. I can highly recommend this experience to share with friends or your family. After lunch we sat in one of the snug areas in the bar and it was a lovely atmosphere, smiley faces and laid back music playing. Perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Heading up to our room with full, happy tummies, we were delighted to find our bedroom just as inviting as the rest of The Feathers. We stayed in one of their ‘Best Rooms’ which overlooked the cute high street. Huge comfy bed, thoughtful design, beautiful huge Georgian windows, a mixture of old and new styles which I adore. After a great night’s sleep we headed down for breakfast in the light, airy glass room. Lots of selection and served by happy smiley staff.

After another a wander round Holt, we headed off to the beach. The north coastline is just stunning, unspoilt and lots of it is dog friendly. We hired a little beach hut which was just dreamy and as we drifted along on our paddle boards we were followed by a seal - it was such a magical experience.

We truly loved our time with The Feathers and we will be heading back for sure.
