IN AND AROUND
To celebrate our wedding anniversary we recently went to stay at The Black Lion in Long Melford. We stopped off to explore the village before we checked in, which is very cute. There were lots of little tea rooms and antique shops to browse.
We also decided to go to Lavenham, just a short drive away. It blew my mind completely; I haven’t seen anything like it in my life. The buildings were the best example of medieval timber frame cottages I have ever seen. And the wonkiest of houses definitely helped us feel more reassured about our own personal move to a similar style house, which sometimes makes us very nervous!
THE BAR & BEDROOM
On our arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff. I loved the way the inn had different areas to drink and dine in and we spent the late afternoon in the bar area which felt really welcoming. I loved the décor, it felt authentic but with nice little modern touches. There was a mixture of locals and hotel guests in the bar which gave it a lovely friendly atmosphere. The bar had cosy little areas for us to enjoy a local ale or two!
We stayed in the ‘Best Bedroom’. It was absolutely stunning! The décor was beautiful, neutral shades with little touches of green to add a little interest. The colour palette made us feel instantly calm with a touch of luxury. The huge windows were just gorgeous. It was definitely a room to remember.

THE RESTAURANT & GARDEN ROOM
We booked into the restaurant for our anniversary meal which was delicious. The food was lovely and the staff were super attentive. We ended our meal with a delicious East Anglian cheese board which was divine.
I loved the way the restaurant had a very different feeling from the bar area and it made it feel like we’d really gone out for a beautiful dining experience.
In the morning we had breakfast in the pretty garden room. Again, the carefully curated interiors created a very different experience. With a delicious breakfast and friendly staff again we were left feeling very full and happy.
The whole place had a very nice ‘feeling’ to it. Decorated with care and attention, a big nod to its heritage, but with modern twists. The friendly staff made us feel very welcome. We’ve already recommended The Black Lion to friends and would definitely go back.
