Lazy mornings, long lunches, and a walk in the fresh air – Sundays are made for slowing down and taking everything in. Whether you’re planning a weekend away or just looking for inspiration close to home, here’s our pick of Sunday activities to enjoy across the East of England this season.

Market Mornings
A Sunday wander around a market is one of life’s simple pleasures – especially when it ends with lunch in a pub garden.
In Suffolk, Bury St Edmunds’ Makers Market takes place on the first Sunday of each month. Expect artisan stalls, live music and a relaxed buzz around the town. Afterwards, head to the countryside setting of Barrow for a laid-back drink in the garden at The Weeping Willow.

Over in Cambridgeshire, Cambridge Market Square hosts an arts, craft and local produce market that can be found in Cambridge’s market square every Sunday from 10am – 4pm, featuring everything from original art to home-baked treats. Stop by The Carpenters Arms for a seasonal lunch in the garden, or a seat by the fire on those colder days.
Garden Visits & Historic Hideaways
For a more peaceful pace, explore the region’s gardens and historic estates – many open on Sundays throughout the year.
Wimpole Estate is open every Sunday from 10am. With walled gardens, spring blooms and resident rare breed animals, it offers plenty to explore.

For a mixture of woodland and gardens, Fullers Mill Garden is a hidden gem open from April to October and is tucked away on the River Lark in Suffolk. Head to The Packhorse Inn for a light lunch after a morning of exploring.
In Essex, explore Audley End Estate and Gardens, where scenic parkland, woodlands and riverside views set the tone for a slow Sunday. The Eight Bells is a short distance away, ready to welcome you for an afternoon tipple. It's also now open 7 days a week!
Sunday Walks that End at the Pub
Craving some time outdoors? A gentle Sunday stroll followed by a pint is one of the best ways to wrap up the weekend.
Stay at The Black Lion ready for an early morning walk at Long Melford Country Park to take in the sounds of the dawn chorus. Listen out for the knocking of woodpeckers, chirping of chaffinches and keep your eyes peeled for kingfishers.

In Cambridgeshire, wander the raised boardwalks at Wicken Fen, surrounded by wild grassland and waterways. Spot dragonflies flying through the reserve and stop by the last working wooden windpump in the fens.
Head to The Wiveton Bell to do their five-mile Wiveton Wander before a hearty lunch. The walk takes you along the Norfolk Coast Path with stretching views across Blakeney National Nature Reserve before skirting the edge of Cley next the Sea.
Lazy Sundays by the Sea
There’s something about being near the sea that makes Sunday feel even more serene. Whether it’s a peaceful boat trip or a morning dip in the ocean, the East of England has plenty of ways to soak up the calm.
Southwold is a great spot for a seaside Sunday – whether it’s reading a book on the sand or taking in the views of the town from the pier.

In Norfolk, start your day at the seaside town of Sheringham. Head to the coast for a breath of fresh air with a walk along the seafront, before settling down for a Sunday evening at The Feathers in Holt.
